This story only has two characters which is bound to remind your child of The Three Little Pigs and The Gingerbread Man.
And who doesn’t love a good picture book with talking animals? It seems that anytime there’s a sly fox in a story he is always being tricked – and it’s no different in this story!
If you were unable to find this book to read, you can watch a read aloud of it here.
Without further ado, here are some My Lucky Day activities, games and writing projects!
Roll, Think and Talk
Do you want to get your child talking about the book but are not sure what questions to ask? Or maybe you just want to have a conversation about the book but your child has no interest. This free game is a simple way to make those things happen without your child really knowing!
Board Game
This is also a very fun way to get your child excited talking about the book as well. There are 23 questions ranging from simple story element questions to deeper, higher level thinking questions. And, bonus, they will learn patience and good sportsmanship while playing. And let’s face it, every child needs practice with those two traits! Find the game here.
Story Sequence Book
Sequencing a story is probably one of the big things you remember about reading class in elementary school! That’s because IT’S IMPORTANT! Maggie’s Kinder Corner has a great activity for your child to practice this skill with My Lucky Day. So grab you crayons, scissors and glue and have fun with this project found here.
Writing Craft
Here’s another fun craft. The pig and fox can be used for so many things. You can simply use them as practice for cutting and gluing skills (coloring too because it comes in black/white). Or you could use them to retell the story. Or you could make up your very own story. Find the activity here.
This activity also includes three writing prompts to go with each character for some more structured writing practice.
Become an Artist
Is there an artist hidden inside of your child…or you? Learn to draw a pig and fox similar to the ones in the story with these easy to understand videos.
And let me just say that Liam learned waaaaay more for this activity than how to draw the animals. My dear son is a bit of a perfectionist. While there were no tears, there was a lot of whining and “I am the worst drawer.” and “Yours is better than mine.” However, he persevered, and his drawings turned out great. And he put his own creative spin on his pig’s color!
Creative Writing
This is a fun way to get your child’s imagination going…and maybe learn some of their sneaky tactics! Your child can become the author and illustrator of their very own book with this activity!
Snack Time
Check out this real cute fox snack! This might be a creative way to get your kiddo to eat those fruits they don’t normally eat…or they’ll just pick the bananas off like Liam. You can find the recipe here.
