The phone rings and I hear, “What would you say if I asked to go mushroom hunting?”

Um, how do I respond to that? Mushroom hunting? Is that a thing? Maybe because I’m a child of the 90s but the TV show David the Gnome popped into my head. Didn’t they live in mushrooms or something?

I really wanted to laugh but I could tell he was serious. Apparently hunting mushrooms is really a thing.

My funny thoughts only increased when he said, “I’ll bring my gun.” Thoughts of him shooting at giant life size mushrooms entered my head. Then I realized he was referring to the gun as protection from bears NOT to catch the mushrooms.

I don’t have much insight into the mushroom hunting experience but he came home with some gorgeous pictures that I thought were worth sharing.

As always, Matt’s adventure took him to some amazing views. Montana truly is a beautiful place.

According to Matt, these certain mushrooms that he went hunting for are called Morel mushrooms. They are found in areas a year after there has been a fire. So he headed up to the Gravelly Mountains and began to hunt.

Like all things Matt does, he goes all out. So he didn’t just go into the mountains for a leisurely mushroom hunting experience just to say he did it.

He came home and dried them out. A true gatherer stocking up for the winter. Ha!

He also used some and mixed them in with some snap peas for dinner tonight. He’s fancy like that making up his own recipes…and eating from the wild.

Sweet Peas with Morel Mushrooms

Just another Montana adventure for my guy. He has no trouble finding adventures here in this part of the country.

I’m curious….would you eat these mushrooms?
