So I’ve been back in North Carolina for fourteen days. I truly was on vacation for those two weeks in Montana. There were no emails to catch up on, no papers to grade, no meetings to attend, no alarm clock to wake up to (other than Liam). But, it’s back to reality and reality hit hard. Here’s just a few highlights of my crazy two weeks back home:
– stomach bug for Liam (and other family members but praise the Lord not me)
– both Liam and I fighting bad colds
– father-in-law in the hospital for a few days (three nights and no surgery and he is doing well)
– babysitters son almost having to have heart surgery (prayers were truly answered for this sweet boy)
– plenty of school meetings
– two snow days (which I reveled in as I may never see another one anytime soon!)
– interviewing for my job (replacing yourself is a very weird thing to do)
– applying for a second grade job in Montana (!!!)
– planning Liam’s birthday party (how is he already two?!?)
– the beginning stages of potty training (really?!)
– finding out I have to take an exam to obtain my Montana teaching license (which is going to test my knowledge in math, reading, social studies and science – I’ve looked at the questions – NOT EASY!!)
– cleaning for a house showing (aka hiding everything in sight)
– MOVING FURNITURE OUT!
So, as much as I’ve been longing to write here…there has been NO TIME!
I sit here with a moment to relax, thankful. Seven people just left my house. Seven people who gave up their evening to help move furniture to our storage unit. Seven people who I am grateful to call friends.
When Matt moved to Montana and I realized that I was staying behind with three bedrooms of furniture, two living rooms of furniture, and a kitchen, dining room and office full of furniture…I panicked. All that furniture needed to get out of the house. And with the man of the house gone… Call me old fashioned but that’s his territory not mine. I clean the house so it will sell. He moves the furniture out when it sells. So we talked about who could help me and we had a time to reflect on just how blessed we are. We have a lot of people who I could call on.
This blessing is what makes leaving hard. But while some friendships we have made here will most likely be for this season in our lives, I have no doubt that we have friendships that will last no matter the distance.
As they were loading the furniture on to the trailer, I had visions of moving in four years ago. It honestly feels like yesterday. Actually, when we moved in we had next to no furniture. We bought the bedroom suite as soon as we closed on the house and we brought Matt’s old bedroom suite for the guest room. But we had really nothing else. The house was very empty for a while. And with no rugs at the time I can remember how it echoed. But we have filled this house up and we have made it home.
But we are now one step closer to being back together with Matt and one step closer for our Rocky Mountain Adventures to begin!!!
