Every morning before Liam starts his school work we’ve been having a dance party. In part, it’s to get some wiggles out. But if I’m honest, it really just amps him up more. My one year old and the one year old I nanny think it’s the best thing in the world though.
Today’s dance party song choice was also the beginning of our music lesson. I wish I could post a video of the dance moves that were happening.
I got this feeling inside my bones
It goes electric, wavy when I turn it on
Can’t Stop That Feeling
Justin Timberlake
Let me just say that the boys were feeling it in their bones for sure. And, off topic, but I think it is the catchiest song in the world. I’ve been singing it all day! Take a listen and I bet you’ll be singing it too!
We also practice some feeling the rhythm with a little rhythm stick practice. Yes, I had no rhythm sticks so I sent Liam off on a hunt to find anything that could work. He brought back markers which I thought was a perfectly fine choice.
We watched a few videos from Makin’ Music Rockin’ Rhymes. Even the Little’s had fun.
What We Learned
By then end of the lesson, Liam was able to:
- feel the rhythm of a song.
- identify three important parts of music are melody, harmony and rhythm
He also had a good understanding of these vocabulary words::
- melody
- harmony
- rhythm

I love the song (I’ve got the feeling) too. Can’t get over it lols
I woke up with it in my head this morning. That’s how much we’ve been singing/dancing to it!
This looks like so much fun! My kids would love this lesson. Definitely something we’re going to try soon!
