I am a mom.
I am a daughter.
I am a sister.
I am a friend.
I am a Christian.
I am a teacher.
I am a southern-born girl who lives in North Carolina. I have a six-year old son, two-year-old son, a wonderful husband and one furry, four legged child.
In 2017, my husband accepted a job 2,000 miles away from our closest friends and family to Montana and thus began my journey creating Glue Sticks and Games.
If we go way back, it all began when I was five playing “Teacher” in my basement with my stuffed animals. I created my own grade book and worksheets and tests.
It was what I wanted to be since kindergarten. Yes, it is written in my baby book that at the age of five I wanted to be a teacher.
As a college freshman needing to declare a major I worried that I hadn’t considered enough options and was just choosing something because it is all I had ever wanted to do.
But that’s how God works. Sometimes He just makes the choices obvious.
One choice He did not make so obvious was moving 2,000 miles away from friends and family to Montana from North Carolina in 2017.
With that move, my blog changed. And it has since changed more. It’s my baby…ever growing and changing.
It began as a journey into motherhood and then changed into our adventure moving to Montana. Once there it became more about our adventures. And, now, once again it has morphed into more of an educational resource for other mothers and teachers.
As an elementary teacher of over ten years, teaching is in my blood. But another dream was fulfilled when we moved to Montana and that was to stay home with my children. But I just couldn’t not teach. So my son (and the children I nannied) became my student.
While I may not share our family adventures as much any more, you will still find my thoughts on parenting, plenty of recipes (especially those that kids in the kitchen) and of course many educational activities that can be done from home. Learning does not have to be done at a desk!
Many of the topics that I taught my son while staying home with him came from the Core Knowledge Curriculum. I taught this curriculum for ten years while I was in the classroom and fell in love with it. So, I knew that when my son was preschool age I wanted him to go on the Core Knowledge journey as well.
You’re probably thinking, a curriculum?! That seems so….rigid. It’s not, I promise! Click here to learn more about it!
I hope you can find this blog to be a place filled with ideas for your classroom, your home, and your family.
While in Montana, I took the opportunity do a variety of different jobs to try and supplement the income I was not getting teaching. This included working at a church, nannying, teaching with VIPKID and creating recources for a website called Teachers Pay Teachers.
Because of my TPT store, a publishing company found me and I was offered the opportunity to become a published author!
It is a small dream to come true to now have a book with my name on it on a bookshelf…even a digital bookshelf like Amazon!
