We told Jerry, Darnell and Erika about the baby two days ago and it went perfect. I have the video to prove it 🙂
We went over to their house and had dinner. We went about the whole evening like always. While we were all sitting on the porch Matt handed Jerry his Father’s Day card. The look on his face was priceless as he said “Grandpa??”. Everyone paused for a bit and then Darnell tried to grab the card from him as he opened it up. Erika’s reaction was great too. “This is the BEST Father’s Day ever!!” Anyway, the video is priceless.
Now to tell my familia. It’s looking like Christopher will have to get a phone call since he won’t be down at the beach this weekend. But hopefully it’ll go just as smooth.
I have had a lot of self-control here lately at school. Jessie is pregnant and people keep requesting me for their teacher next year because they don’t want their child to have a teacher on maternity leave. I want to just say “Jokes on them!” but I have held my tongue. It will be funny (to me), though, when we tell the parents that both of us will be on maternity leave this school year.
Hopefully by typing this it is not like saying it out loud. So far, I have felt great. I’m at seven weeks and no nauseousness or anything. I’m beginning to think that the one morning I felt bad was because I had Burger King the night before. Haha.
Matt and I are heading to the beach this afternoon and I am so ready! We are visiting our friends Ryan and Anna on Friday. Although we’re not really telling friends yet we decided to go ahead and tell them because it’s much more fun in person. I’m sure they’ll be thrilled.
Now, to flip the coin from excitement to nervousness… Jessie was talking about childcare yesterday and it brought up a lot of nerves. Childcare is one BIG thing that kept me from having kids for so long. I finally decided to stop thinking about the money but she resurrected that fear. She was talking about how her one friend pays 1100 dollars for two kids to go to childcare each month. That’s almost as much as our mortgage! Granted I don’t have two kids but still…
So many friends rely on their parents as childcare. We don’t have that option nor would I want that burden to be on our parents. But where will our child go? Somewhere in Marion? In Morganton? Really, it would be nice if it was somewhere where you could pay by the day because Matt has two days off a week that we wouldn’t necessarily need childcare. After maternity leave, I’ll have 2-3 months left in school and then summer break. Is there somewhere that will take a child just for that short amount of time? We really need a new car too. This is a lot of extra payments that we are not currently used to.
But, it is off to work and then the beach I go! That is something to think about for another time.
