I am loving learning along with Liam! My friend who brought her daughters over told me the same thing. We are both learning just about as much as the children are with these art lessons!
This lesson focusing on Henri Matisse was no different!
Lesson
We played the Line Matching Game from last week for a quick review. Our friend wasn’t here last week so it was a great opportunity for Liam to ‘be the teacher’ and catch her up to speed.
Our Discussion Read Aloud focused on the artist Henri Matisse. We began by talking a lot about the different lines in his drawing of The Swan.
I wish I could take a simple pencil and turn some lines into a fun drawing like this! We did try out hand at it with a Directed Drawing (which are always fun!) but there would just be something so wonderful about being able to do it completely on my own.
Then we learned more about Henri Matisse’s unique type of art with paper cut outs so of course we had to make our own!
What We Learned
By the end of the lesson, he was able to:
- recount details of Henri Matisse’s life.
- execute their own artwork similar to Henri Matisse
He also now has a good understanding of many new vocabulary words such as:
- Henri Matisse
- cutout
My entire lesson plan can be purchased here.
Here’s a little secret, though. Any Glue Sticks and Games blog subscriber receives these materials FREE in their inbox each week! So, snag your copy of this lesson and then sign up to get the rest of the year for free!
Other Great Resources
Here are some great resources that are not included in my Lesson Plan but that I felt were still worth mentioning. And I’m sure I’ll come back to these when we have space time throughout our week.
