Is there anything more fun for kids than mixing together…well, anything? Dirt and water? Cookie dough? Cake batter? Rocks and sand? Paint?

Honestly, the dirtier the better right? For them at least. Not me.

I used to cringe anytime we’d go to the creek and Liam would want to mix dirt and creek water. It’s NEVER a clean activity. And then throw in some rocks and bugs and he’d have some fine mixtures going on.

Mixing is fun, plain and simple. I much prefer the results of a good cookie dough mixture but that’s just me!

What We Did

We had friends come over for our art class again this week which makes it so much more fun.

We read the simplest book about color mixing…yet so cute. There’s not much cuter than a little rabbit hopping into bowls of paint is there?

Afterwards, we did some color experimenting…

…and then got to work painting. I found these cute Mickey Mouse paint plates at Dollar Tree. Six for a dollar! And it was perfect for them to experiment with their color mixing and the color wheel.

There’s just something about watching children really concentrate on a project. Both the older ones were very intentional about keeping their paint within the lines and making sure that they mixed each secondary color well.

What We Learned

  1. This is such a fun art project for littles. And the graphic designer in me is loving that some new words and phrases in their vocabulary includes things like “primary and secondary colors.”
